While at work, employees may encounter injury or illness resulting in death, days out of work or restrictions from work. Various criteria are used to determine and classify each case of damage or ailment based on OSHA standards. Therefore, this paper will enumerate the criteria used to determine if an injury or illness is classified as a "restricted work" case as well as provide an example of the case based on OSHA standards.Based on OSHA standards, an injury or illness is classified as a restricted work case under two criterions. Firstly, if the employer keeps the employee from executing one or more of the routine tasks of their job or from performing full workday that the employee would have been scheduled to complete the work, then the case can be termed as a "restricted work"(OSHA, 2001). Similarly, if a licensed health care professional or a physician recommends that the worker should not carry out one or more of routine tasks in the workplace or not perform duties the full workday, then the case can be classified as a "restricted work (OSHA, 2001).For example, John, a permanent employee of Oswal Company incurs injury in the execution of his job. The physician recommends a work restriction, and he is forced to work for less than the full time required.
